SESSION 8 – Radiological and Nuclear Safety and Security, Protection and Technologies
This session focuses on scientific, technological, and operational advances in radiological and nuclear (R/N) safety, protection, and measurement. Modern R/N emergencies—ranging from lost sources to deliberate releases—require state-of-the-art detection, mapping, and decision-support capabilities.
Topics include high-resolution spectrometry, dosimetry innovations, unmanned and robotic sensing, and mobile laboratory deployment for rapid radiological assessment. The integration of these technologies with Decision Support Systems (DSS) and Digital Twins to enhance situational awareness is strongly encouraged. Papers may also explore radiation shielding, decontamination processes, radioactive waste management, and environmental remediation, with special emphasis on sustainability and long-term monitoring.
Further themes include cross-border monitoring networks, public risk communication, and community engagement during radiological crises. The session aims to link technological development, operational practice, and policy, supporting enhanced radioprotection and international collaboration in R/N safety.
